Message from the Principal

One of the biggest things that we are focused on for the 2009-2010 school year, is to get as many of the families involved in the everyday activities at Southbury Elementary school. Read More

Second Grade

I am so excited about teaching second grade at Southbury! I have worked with second grade students over the past few years and I am thrilled to be having my own classroom this year.

I attended Oswego schools and am so lucky to be able to teach in the wonderful town where I grew up. I graduated from North Central College in Naperville where I also played soccer for three years. In my free time I enjoy jogging, scrapbooking, and spending time with my niece and nephews.

It is my goal to create a classroom environment where students are actively involved in the learning process. I want my students to be excited about learning and become confident problem solvers.

I look forward to meeting all of you and can't wait to start our new year together as second grade Sharks!

I have been teaching in District 308 since 1977. I live in Oswego with my husband, Steve; our son, Erik, a student at University of Missouri; and our cat, Daisy. During my free time at home, you may find me reading mystery novels, playing my flute, or grading the many sets of papers my students complete each day.

In my classroom, I encourage responsibility by sending home small homework assignments that allow children to practice and review previously taught work. I hope your child will establish a routine at home that will carry on throughout his/her school years.

Self-esteem is also an area I strongly stress. In our classroom, mistakes are OK. I encourage students to always do their best and that it's OK if they don't remember an answer or answer incorrectly. These are known as learning opportunities, and I hope to be introducing your child to many of them.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

I am so very excited about this year and the years to come at Southbury Elementary School.  What a privilege it is to be a part of this school community!  I am looking forward to meeting all the new families and greeting familiar family friends.  After spending 10 years teaching first grade, I am very excited to start my new adventures as a second grade teacher.

I moved to Illinois from California in the summer of 2005 to be closer to family.  My husband Jeff, daughter Karley, CoCo Puff the mixed terrier, and Cuppy the mini doxie all moved with me.  I am the proud parent of an OHS student.  Where does the time go?  When I'm not doing school work, I love to read historical novels and go out to dinner and the movies with my family.  I can't start my morning without coffee, and I'm hooked on American Idol, Heroes, and Lost.

I hope to be a memorable teacher in your child's life.  It is my goal each year that every one of my students feels loved, cared for, appreciated for their uniqueness, and SUCCESSFUL no matter their skill level.

Here's to another wonderful school year!
