I am excited to be teaching 4th grade at Southbury Elementary School. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year of learning with the children and the thrill of opening a new school.
During the 2007-2008 academic year, I taught 4th grade at Old Post Elementary School. Previously, I worked in Indian Prairie School District 204 where I completed maternity-leave substitute teaching assignments in 4th grade and kindergarten, and I also worked in self-contained special education classrooms as a substitute teacher.
I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University, and I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Loyola University of Chicago.
Prior to becoming a teacher I worked as a journalist for 16 years for radio stations, newspapers, a wire service, and in public relations. My wife, Barbara, and I have been married for 12 years. Our daughter, Lily, is 8 years old, and our son, Liam, is 5 years old. We have two dogs: Chloe is a 10-year-old Shepherd mix, and Beckham is a 1-year-old Border Collie Golden Retriever mix.
I played soccer in high school and college, and now I coach my children's soccer teams. I enjoy hiking and canoeing with my family. In recent years, thanks to the enthusiasm of my daughter, I've taken up fishing; however she's the better angler. I play guitar and write songs. I'm an avid reader, and some of my students describe me as a "grammar police officer" and "math freak." I was born in Alabama and subsequently lived in Ireland, South Carolina, Mississippi, and now Illinois. I've traveled throughout Europe, and in 1991, I traveled solo around the world.

My name is Heather Kraus and I am thrilled to be teaching 4th grade at Southbury. My husband, John, and I have two fantastic children; Andrew (13), and Mariana (9). We have lived in Oswego for eight years and are happy to be a part of such a wonderful community! In my free time I love to spend time with my family and friends, read, scrapbook, swim, bike, and run (triathlons are my passion).
