Hello Southbury community! I am Bev Collins, one of the art teachers who will be privileged to teach at Southbury Elementary. I have been teaching art in Oswego 308 for the last 3 years. Prior to that I taught in Troy Consolidated School District 30C for 9 years and Downers Grove schools for 5. Next year will mark my 18th year of teaching art to elementary school kids. I just LOVE my job. What other job lets me play with kids, paint, clay and crayons and still get paid for it!?
I received my bachelor's degree in art education from Northern Illinois University (Go Huskies!) and completed my master's degree in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University spring of 2008. I have three wonderful children. My daughter just finished all day kindergarten and my twin boys will be starting pre-school in the fall. Our favorite thing to do in the summer is ride bikes and run through the sprinkler. I hope you all have an exciting summer. I'll see many of you in August. :-)

A Little About Me...
I grew up in Litchfield, Illinois (but currently reside in Channahon, IL) with my mom, dad, little sister, Deanna, and my two dogs Kelly and Shadow. I attended Litchfield Senior High School and graduated in 2002. In high school I played the flute in both concert and marching band and piano in the jazz band. I also was part of the school's volleyball team, yearbook committee, drama club and scholastic bowl team. At Augustana College I continued playing flute in both the Symphonic Wind Band and Flute Choir.
In my free time I enjoy teaching flute and piano lessons, reading Harry Potter books and watching the Food Network and ESPN Classic. I am also looking forward to another great year of teaching music here in District 308!
Physical Education
Our goal is to provide an orderly and natural development of the understanding of the human body and function. Through knowledge of skills and strategies, dance and creative activities, personal health/fitness plans, participation in group and individual sport activities, students will come to understand their own potential and recognize their own limitations. Our overall aim is to provide participation and allow for the greatest possible development of each individual.
