Attendance Boundary Changes for
2007-08
Attendance boundary changes within the Oswego School District
for the 2007-08 school year were approved by the School Board on
Monday night, due to the anticipated opening of Grande Park
Elementary School and the completion of expansion and
renovations at Lakewood Creek Elementary School and Boulder Hill
Elementary School.
The changes are based on a recommendation made in March by
the Superintendent’s District Attendance Boundary Advisory
Committee, comprised of 42 individuals, including parents,
community members, teachers, and building and district
administrators.
In developing its recommendations, the committee focused on
developing boundaries that would affect the least amount of
students. They developed guiding principles which emphasized the
need to keep neighborhood schools, create boundaries drawn by
natural division, keep enrollments balanced throughout schools
and minimize bussing/travel time.
Changes affecting the attendance areas at Lakewood Creek and
Boulder Hill Elementary Schools included moving the Orchard
Prairie North, Orchard Prairie Cluster and Saratoga Springs
subdivisions from Lakewood Creek Elementary School to Boulder
Hill Elementary School. The move will affect approximately 32
students. In addition, the dual language program will be moved
from Lakewood Creek Elementary to East View Elementary School,
allowing both schools to accommodate their projected enrollments
for the 2007-08 school year.
At Grande Park Elementary School, attendance boundaries will
include all unincorporated areas adjacent to Grande Park
subdivision that are east of Plainfield, Stewart, Collins and
Douglas Roads and south of Wooley Road and 119th Street. The
move impacts approximately 308 students currently attending
either East View or Churchill Elementary Schools and provides
stability in school capacity and attendance boundaries at both
schools.
District officials and the School Board agree that all
elementary and junior high boundaries will need to be
re-evaluated for the 2008-09 school year, in preparation for the
opening of Hunt Club and Southbury Elementary Schools, and two
additional junior highs. A new attendance advisory committee,
with representatives from all areas within the district, will
likely form in the fall of 2007.
