Daily Announcements for Tuesday, September 11, 2012
September 11, 2012
On Thursday the varsity and frosh/soph girls’ cross country team both placed 2nd in their home quadrangular meet. The order of team finish was identical in both races with Minooka first, OHS second, Oswego East third and Romeoville fourth. Kelsey Hjorth was the individual winner on the varsity and Kayla Perez led the Fresh/Soph attack with a 5th place finish. On Saturday the teams competed at the Joliet Invitational. The varsity placed 2nd among 18 schools. The varsity team consisted of Kelsey Hjorth, Ashley Golembeski, Teagan Terando, Kayla Perez, Dana Janusz, Abby Etheridge and Blair Diemer. The Frosh/Soph had a solid 4th place finish. That team consisted of Maddy Kammerer, Emma Paravola, Alyson Simon, Gianna Lopez, Emma Beck and Kyley Vicik. The Boys’ Cross Country competed in a recent meet. If the meet is scored as a 4 team meet, OHS got second to Minooka by only 2 points, the closest margin since 2005. However, if the race is scored head-to-head as dual meets, OHS beat Minooka by 1 point for the first time in 7 years.

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test or PSAT measures critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills developed over many years, both in and out of school. You will not have to recall facts from literature, history, or science, or math formulas, as this test measures your reasoning and critical thinking skills. A part of the PSAT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test or NMSQT. This is the screening test for high school juniors who wish to compete for National Merit Scholarship Corporation programs. Juniors and other interested students may take the PSAT at Oswego High School on Saturday, October 20. An additional day, Wednesday, October 17, is available at Oswego East High School for those students who have a schedule conflict on the 20th. Registration for testing at both OHS and OEHS is in OHS Student Services. The cost is $15, and is due at the time of registration. There have been a limited number of tests ordered. Sign up will be on a first come – first serve basis. You must sign up by October 5. For further information, see your counselor.
