Fall Testing
October 15, 2012
On Monday, November 5th, 2012, both Oswego and Oswego East High Schools are scheduled to have an early release school day. That day will be used to administer the EXPLORE test to all freshmen students, the PLAN test to all sophomore students, and a practice ACT to all juniors. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. that morning after testing. These tests serve as an accurate indicator of student achievement on the PSAE, the important standardized test given to all juniors in the state of Illinois each spring.
Due to the incredibly important nature of this test, student attendance is vital. For more information on these tests, students and parents may visit the Educational Planning and Assessment System website at www.act.org/epas.
Senior students will not be testing and therefore will not be in attendance November 5th, as all staff will be participating in testing activities. Regularly scheduled classes will resume for all students on Wednesday, November 7th; Tuesday, November 6 is a non-attendance day for all students due to Parent-Teacher Conferences. This additional day afforded to seniors will be a great opportunity to visit a college or vocational center of their choice.
Juniors planning to make the most of this practice test may prepare in a variety of ways. Parents may be interested in enrolling students in an ACT preparation course through Kaplan: more information about courses is available at www.kaptest.com/act. Additional paid test preparation courses are available through Excel Edge; please contact your student’s counselor for additional information about this option. Freshmen, sophomore, and junior students are encouraged to visit the ACT website - www.actstudent.org - for practice questions and testing strategies. Students seeking more information regarding testing should contact their student’s counselor.
