Message from the Principal

January 23, 2012

The beginning of a new semester is a very appropriate time to sit down with your student and talk with them about their academic studies and extracurricular activities. A review of their academic progress, study habits and priorities at this time can make a significant impact on their success for the remainder of the year. Investing some quality time now, can pay big dividends down the road. It is clear that involved parents do make a significant impact on student success in school.
OHS offers several opportunities for parents to stay connected to the progress of their students.   The upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on Friday, February 17th offer an excellent opportunity to meet with your student’s teachers and to learn valuable information regarding their progress. We highly encourage students to attend with their parents and to actively participate in each of the conferences. After all, it is their education that will be discussed. Sign-up for conferences begins on Monday, January 23rd, and information regarding how to do so is included in the January issue of the Panther’s Pride.
Panther Parents Home and School would like to encourage all OHS parents and/or guardians to become involved and learn more about your student's school and activities. The group meets four times a year in the OHS Learning Resource Center (LRC) beginning at 6:00 pm. The next meeting of the Panther Parents is scheduled for Tuesday, February 14th. Topics for discussion will include the transition to the new “Flex 8” schedule for the 2012-13 school year, the planned new additions and renovations to OHS, as well as the impact of potential boundary changes.   For more information, please call Panther Parent President, Bev Konrardy at (630) 554-0795.
As always, we thank the entire OHS community for their continued support and their partnership, as together we pursue our District’s Mission: to ensure each student develops the capacity to thrive as a successful, contributing citizen by providing exemplary educational experiences in a safe, caring and responsive environment.
    With Panther Pride,
    Mike Wayne
