Academic Decathlon *

This is a ten-event competition.  Every team member competes in mathematics, science, economics, social science, language and literature, fine arts, prepared and impromptu speech, interview, essay and super quiz.  Each team is made up of three honor students, three scholastic students, and three varsity students, by GPA; honor (3.75-4), scholastic (3-3.75), varsity (0-2.99).  Sponsor:  Stephanie Scapino   630-636-2388.

 

Band (including Marching Band)

The marching band rehearsals began June 15th to help prepare for their performance during the Prairiefest Parade.  The group has grown in both quantity and quality!  The marching band will resume practices starting on Monday, August 3rd.    Sponsor:  Kelly O’Neill   630-636-2474

 

B.I.O.N.I.C.

Believe It Or Not I Care is a student-led organization available for students who are interested in being support persons to other teens.  The goal of the group is to reach out to others in the school and community and give them a feeling of belonging.  Sponsors:  Dina Schnable  630-636-2205 and Michelle Nevarez   630-636-2236.

 

Dance Company

The Dance Company is a club that meets every week and allows its members to find social acceptance and creative expression through movement. Many different dance styles are concentrated in this club. The main goal of this club is an evening formal performance consisting of staff and student choreographed pieces held at the end of the school year.   Sponsors:  Cynthia Vick, 630-636-2302; Elizabeth Lopez, 630-636-2486

 

Frosh/Soph Class

Frosh/Soph Club is for freshmen and sophmores interested in helping the prom committee.  They will raise money for their class, help decorate prom, and when they are juniors, they will become a part of prom committee.  Sponsor:   Jennifer Suby  630-636-2303;  Kay Knutson  630-636-2339

 

Future Educators of America

FEA helps to explore teaching as a career option, providing a realistic understanding of teaching and encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to think seriously about the teaching profession. Meetings: Mondays, C217  Sponsor:  Andrea Gardels   630-636-2323.

 

Interact - Website

Interact is a service and social club open to all students. The club is sponsored by Rotary and carries out local and international service projects that benefit the community or school and promote goodwill. Interact meets Thursdays in the Faculty Lunch Room, 2:40-3:15. Jazz Band

The OEHS Jazz Band will begin rehearsing in November.  Last year the Jazz Band performed during the March concert, and this year, we are looking forward to having more performance opportunities.  Membership is open to any OEHS student who is enrolled in a curricular band.

Junior Class

Includes juniors and seniors who plan the  prom from the very beginning.  They take the time to pick out a theme, decorations, the dinner that will be served, and everything that goes into planning a prom.  Meets every Tuesday, 2:40-3:30, Room G222. Sponsor: Jennifer Suby   630-636-2303.

 

Literary Magazine

Mathletes - Website

This year the team will be participating in an International competition each month without even leaving Oswego East High School! Practices are held twice a month at a before school or after school time in F326 on Thursdays.  Sponsor:  Liz Martinez  630-636-2328; Christine Kill  630-636-2309

 

National Art Honor Society

Students who are outstanding in art their freshman year are eligible for membership into NAHS as sophomores.  The purpose is to inspire and recognize those students who have shown outstanding ability in art.  Meets Thursdays, 2:40-3:30 in B272. Sponsor:  Patricia O’Mara-Croft  630-636-2452.

 

National Honor Society  *

NHS is a recognition program for high school students who show achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  Students are selected for membership by a five member Faculty Council. Candidates must meet the chapter's requirement for scholarship, service, leadership and character in order to be selected for membership.  Sponsor: Colleen Calvey  630-636-2373.

 

Pom Squad - website

Members of the Pom Squad are selected in the spring of the previous school year through a tryout system.  Membership is limited only to those in the sophomore, junior and senior classes.  Poms perform at football and basketball games as well as at student pep assemblies.  There is also a summer clinic and camp that students are expected to participate in.  Fundraising activities are a major aspect of being a Pom.  SponsorsLisa Michaels, 630-636-2337;  Brittan Fatig  630-636-2367.

 

Scholastic Bowl  * - website

Membership on the Scholastic Bowl Team is made by the sponsor of the team.  Students compete in College Bowl format of competition against various other schools as well as the I.H.S.A. state series.  SponsorsDave Carlisle, 630-636-2261; Adele Dalesandro, Michael Einhorn, April Smith

Speech Team  *

Speech Team is open to all students who wish to improve their public speaking and/or stage skills.  Competition at meets consists of the areas of oratory, oral declamation, prose, verse, humorous/dramatic interpretation, humorous/dramatic duet acting, extemporaneous, radio speaking and original comedy.  The season runs from November through February.    Sponsor:  Stephanie Aiello   630-636-2340

 

Student Council

Student Council is a service organization open to all students. It oversees a wide variety of school and community related activities such as student government, assemblies, homecoming, dances, blood drive, and fundraising projects.  SponsorsKelley Hren  630-636-2377 and Stephanie Scapino 630-636-2388.

 

Winter Guard

Wolfpack News/East T.V. 16 - website

Students involved with East TV 16 produce the morning announcements via live TV hooked up to all OEHS classrooms. Experiences range from camera operator, videotape playback, video switching, video editing, teleprompting, computer graphics, audio engineering and producing.  Students can work with either or both semesters. Open studios are on Tuesdays, 2:40-4:00.
