Academic Decathlon* This is a ten-event competition. Every team member competes in mathematics, science, economics, social science, language and literature, fine arts, prepared and impromptu speech, interview, essay and super quiz. Each team is made up of three honor students, three scholastic students, and three varsity students, by GPA; honor (3.75-4), scholastic (3-3.75), varsity (0-2.99). Animal Rights (ARK) To inform the school and community of the injustices committed to animals, while helping the surrounding community, of people and animals alike, through service projects and fundraisers.

Auto Club The auto club is for any student interested in learning about the areas of automotive that are not covered in classes. In the club we learn about high performance, racing, restorations, modifications, and fabricating. We meet once a week to learn about those areas in an informal lecture, discuss the automotive world, fix/modify the students cars, and to make improvements to our shop and auto program. BRIDGES is a student-led organization available for students who are interested in being support persons to other teens. The goal of the group is to reach out to others in the school and community and give them a feeling of belonging. BRIDGES sponsors both the T.A.L.K. (Teens Activating the Language of Kindness) and B.B.B.S. (Big Brothers Big Sisters) programs. BRIDGES also facilitates other activities throughout the year and Pay It Forward week in February. Business Club Gives students opportunities to get up close and personal with businesses around Chicagoland. Students will have the opportunity to see the inter-workings of local businesses and professional sporting organizations. The club will host business related guest speakers and travel to businesses for behind the scenes tours.

Drama* Drama Club is open to any student participating in the Fall, Winter, or Spring main stage productions. In addition to the school shows, there will be field trips to several theatres in the Chicagoland area. The Drama Club, along with about 4,000 students from other Illinois high schools, also participate annually in the Illinois High School Theatre Festival the first Thursday-Saturday of January at Illinois State University. East T.V. 16 East TV is the student-run television station at Oswego East High School and broadcasts in-house on Channel 16. Our flagship show is WolfPack News, a news and information program televised daily throughout the school. We also produce music videos, commercials, and public service announcements. Students interested in working for East TV should attend the open studios held once a week, 2:40 PM - 4:00 PM, in the Broadcast Center (B156). Students can work in the studio (camera and floor directing), the control room (directing, audio, teleprompter, and video playback), video editing, field camera, writing, and field producing. Ecology Members meet regularly to maintain the school's recycling program and keep abreast of ecology, conservation, and social concerns. Speakers and authorities discuss with membership various current and interesting topics. Membership is open to the entire student body. Future Educators Association FEA helps to explore teaching as a career option, providing a realistic understanding of teaching and encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to think seriously about the teaching profession. Meetings: Tuesdays in C217. Sponsor: Andrea VanWie 630-636-2323
Freshmen Club Committee is comprised of students who wish to be leaders and active in their class. Members will be involved in community service, planning social functions for their class, and fundraising for their class. Anyone who is interested may join, and officers will be elected. German National Honor Society (German: Deutsche Ehrenverbindung) is an honor society for outstanding students of the German language. For induction, a student must have completed at least three semesters of German classes, with a 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale, calculated on a cumulative basis for all semesters. The student must also have at least a 3.0 GPA in their other classes. This is a highly sought recognition by universities and businesses. Sponsor: Anna Hog 630 636 2133
Government Club / Junior State of America The Government Club seeks to increase student and staff awareness about the way the American system of government works and how citizens can be involved in their local, state and federal governments. It also serves as a vehicle to advance academic competition through Illinois Youth and Government (Springfield, IL), Harvard Model Congress (Boston, MA) and Close Up (Washington, D.C.). Hate Free @ OE works to a create a safe environment for students to support each other and learn about homophobia and other oppressions. We educate the school community about homophobia, gender identity, and sexual orientation issues, and fight discrimination, harassment, and violence in schools. Horticulture Club / FFA (Future Farmers of America) The Horticulture Club/FFA is open to any and all students interested in horticulture or floral design. Members become involved in a variety of activities related to specific holidays and seasons including fundraisers, sales, FFA competitions, and conferences. Sponsor: Cynthia Vick 630-636-2302
Interact Interact is a service and social club open to all students. The club is sponsored by Rotary and carries out local and international service projects that benefit the community or school and promote goodwill. Interact meets Thursdays in the faculty lunch room from 2:30 PM - 3 PM. Sponsor: Dan Breyne 630-636-2239
Jazz Band The OEHS Jazz Band is open to all students enrolled in a curricular band class. Instrumentation usually includes saxophones, trumpets, trombones, guitar, piano, bass, drum set, and auxiliary percussion. In the past, additional instruments have also been used within the group. Membership into this group is by audition. During the 2012-2013 school year, auditions for the Jazz Band take place in September. The group rehearses on Wednesdays from 4 PM – 6 PM. Junior Class Committee Includes juniors and seniors who plan prom from the very beginning. They take the time to pick out a theme, decorations, the dinner that will be served, and everything that goes into planning a prom. Meets certain Tuesdays from 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM in room F325. Marching Band The OEHS Marching Band ("Beasts of the East") is open to all students enrolled in a curricular band class. There are no auditions for woodwind and brass players. Auditions for drum line, pit percussion, and color guard take place in April and May. The Marching Band performs at OEHS home football games, participates in local parades, performs in one university halftime show, and plays at various community events and school pep rallies. The Marching Band rehearses in the Fall on most Mondays and Thursdays (some Tuesday rehearsals occur if there is no school on Monday) from 6PM-8PM. Additionally, the group holds rehearsals in June and August to prepare for parades and football game performances. Mathletes Mathletes will compete in two competitions this year, a conference meet in December and a regional meet in February with a possibility of qualifying for a state competition in May. Mosaic Students meet to discuss issues of diversity and design activities to introduce students to various cultural groups within the school. Students celebrate and discuss diversity one month at a time. They strive to breakdown cultural barriers and design activities to introduce students to various cultural groups within the school. Mu Alpha Theta Mu Alpha Theta - A National High School Mathematics Honor Society for students who’ve completed Algebra 2 or Algebra 2 Honors with an A or B while maintaining a math GPA of3.7. In addition, students must be enrolled in a higher level math course such as Pre-Calculus, College Preparatory Statistics, or an AP course. Members will help tutor students in math throughout the school year and have the opportunity to apply for awards and scholarships. National Art Honor Society Students who are outstanding in art their freshman year are eligible for membership into NAHS as sophomores. National Honor Society* NHS is a recognition program for high school students who show achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students are selected for membership by a five member Faculty Council. Candidates must meet the chapter's requirement for scholarship, service, leadership and character in order to be selected for membership. Sponsor: Colleen Calvey 630-636-2373
National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) The National Technical Honor Society is the acknowledged leader in the recognition of outstanding student achievement in career and technical education. The OEHS chapter of NTHS awards students who have attained a minimum of a 3.5 GPA in a series of Career & Technical courses and an overall high school GPA of 3.0. The OEHS chapter encourages students to strive for excellence in all academic disciplines,cultivates a desire for personal excellence by upholding the NTHS member attributes of honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership, and promotes the inherent value of technical coursework due to the applicable skills acquired. The NTHS awards an increasing number of scholarships each year to its members who pursue post-secondary education in a Career & Technical field. Newspaper Club The Newspaper Club is responsible for the monthly publication of the OEHS student-designed newspaper, THE EDGE. Students with strong writing skills and a genuine interest in the professional process of student journalism are encouraged to participate. Photography Photo Club will explore the use of digital and traditional photography. We will go on group photo
shoots and learn to import our digital photos in Photoshop. We will learn the basics of B&W 35mm photography and use the darkroom. Several field trips will be available to members. A camera is NOT required, but weekly attendance is expected. Sponsor: Danielle Wukitsch 630-636-2357
Robotics The District 308 Robotics Team participates in FIRST Robotics with sponsorship from Caterpillar Inc. There are a variety of opportunities for student participation including project management/tracking, web design, marketing and community outreach, mechanical build team, electrical build team, programming team, and many more. Participation on the team is open to 9th - 12th grades at both Oswego and Oswego East High Schools. Sponsor: Dru Filkins: 630-636-2263
Science Olympiad We are a group of students that are deeply passionate about science. Once a week, we practice events for a regional competition held in early spring. There are many different events that students may wish to study, including anatomy & physiology, ornithology, trajectory, etc. Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of k-12 science education, increasing male, female and minority interest in science, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers. These goals are achieved by participating in Science Olympiad tournaments and non-competitive events, incorporating Science Olympiad into classroom curriculum and attending teacher training institutes. Scholastic Bowl* Scholastic Bowl is a fun, fast-paced academic competition for students. People who like Jeopardy, Trivial Pursuit, reading, and those who get joy out of increasing their knowledge often participate in this activity. In a match, two teams of five vie to answer the most questions quickly and correctly, using an electronic buzzer system. The questions cover a wide range of topics. The teams compete in conference meets and select Saturday invitational tournaments. The IHSA (Illinois High School Association) governs the activity, and sponsors a series of tournaments leading to the state championship. The season starts in October and ends in March. Many students will be invited in September each year but all academically eligible students are encouraged to join. Due to the popularity of the activity, OEHS typically sponsors several levels of teams at both the Freshman/Sophomore and Varsity Levels. Membership on the Scholastic Bowl Team is made by the sponsor of the team. Students compete in College Bowl format of competition against various other schools as well as the I.H.S.A. state series. Senior Advisory Mentors (SAMs) The Senior Advisory Mentor program was designed to place one senior in each freshmen Advisory to serve as a mentor. Students can apply to the program in the spring of their junior year and then 25 juniors are selected to be trained over the summer for their SAM responsibilities. The SAMS are expected to run team building activities, facilitate discussions, and serve as a peer guides to the freshmen. Sponsors: Julie Allen 630-636-2230, Melissa Gleason 630-636-2240
Senior Class Committee Officers and members of senior class assist in planning events for seniors including awards night, brunch, and graduation. The groups meet on the second Tuesday of each month. Sponsor: Colleen Calvey 630-636-2373

Speech Team* Speech Team is a competitive team in the art of public speaking and is open to any student interested in developing their public speaking skills. Speech Team members compete in tournaments on Saturdays in 14 different speaking events ranging from dramatic and humorous duet acting, prose and poetry, radio, extemporaneous and impromptu speaking, to oratory declamation and informative speaking. Our season lasts from November through February with mandatory team meetings on Fridays in B211 and individual coachings during the week. Speech Team is an auditioned team. Spotlight Vocal Jazz Spotlight is a vocal jazz group. We sing professional level music, and perform at school concerts, community events and competitions. Members are held to the highest vocal standards, and personally engage with some of the finest jazz, theatre, & popular songs of the last 100 years. Auditions are held at the end of the school year. Student Ambassadors The Student Ambassador program provides assistance to transfer students at OEHS. They also volunteer their time at Fall Student Orientation, Parent Teacher conferences, and Open House. Student Council Student Council is a service organization open to all students. It oversees a wide variety of school and community related activities such as student government, assemblies, homecoming, dances, blood drive, and fundraising projects. Student Leadership Initiative Program (SLIP) SLIP is a leadership program coordinated by the Kendall County Outdoor Education Center that 5 sophomores are invited to be a part of each year. The primary goal of SLIP is to teach the leaders of tomorrow how to get along and work effectively with each other, no matter what their race, gender, religion, ethnic or socioeconomic background. The 5 OEHS sophomores are invited to go on monthly field trips that incorporate team building and service projects, and ultimately hone their leadership skills. TARC Rocket Team allows students to apply their math and science skills to a real world problem. Students will design, build and fly a rocket of their own design to carry 1 raw egg to 750 feet and return them safely. In addition to using math and science skills students will learn to use a computer design and simulation software to design and test their
rocket. This is a national contest sponsored in part by NASA and the United States aerospace industry. Meetings will be held every Tuesday and Thursday in C115. Sponsor: John Miller 630-636-2343

Voice Activated is an auditioned, extracurricular vocal ensemble that performs a cappella, or without instruments. Members apply excellent musical skills to an exciting and entertaining style of signing. WolfPack Encourages school spirit throughout the school year and creates traditions. Our goal is to increase attendance to sporting events and help our students (and staff) gain a sense of pride. Yearbook Club The Yearbook club assists in the creation of the Wolf’s Eye Yearbook. Junior and Seniors that have competed one semester of Applied Visual Communications are invited to join the club and assist in planning, organizing and creating the yearbook. Members of the club also assist in fundraising projects such as the coordination of the Talent Show and various other projects. Meetings are scheduled according to deadlines set by the publisher.
