Driver Education - Course Overview
Driver Education - 1/2 credit (1 term)
Graduation Requirement
Prerequisite: Minimum age of 16 during course and attendance at two mandatory meetings to be held after school prior to the beginning of class to take both the vision and written permit test and fill out the permit application.
Lab Fee: $156.00; Driving Permit $20.00
This is divided into two areas: classroom and behind-the-wheel. Classroom instruction teaches students personal and social issues, develops knowledge and attitude for safe driving, and is mandatory. Behind the wheel teaches realistic situations and skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and is optional. To be eligible for Driver Education, a student must be 16 (or turn 16) during the term they are enrolled in the class, have a Social Security number and have passed 5 courses (2-5 credits) in the previous two terms. Term assignment of Driver Education may be determined by availability of space. Students will be required to attend two meetings before the first meeting of the classroom portion to obtain their instruction permit which is needed prior to beginning behind-the-wheel training.
