Message from the Principal
September 3, 2009
Dear Lakewood Creek Families,
The thrill and excitement associated with the first days of a new school year were definitely experienced throughout the hallways of Lakewood Creek over the past week! Thanks to you as parents, our committed staff, and support of our District office, we have begun what will sure to be another year filled with educational and social opportunities that will impact the students of Lakewood Creek in countless positive ways throughout the year. I would personally like to welcome all brand new families to our learning community as well as a number of new Lakewood Creek staff members!
Lakewood Creek enters year two of a three year School Improvement Plan. We will continue to focus on the District and schools mission, beliefs and goals to guide our School Improvement Plan. Our concentration will be increasing student achievement in reading, math, and writing, and continue our Professional Learning Communities – allotting scheduled time for teachers to collaborate and discuss student achievement, intervention, data, etc. In addition, Character Counts will continue as one of our main means of providing students with a caring, productive, and orderly learning environment.
Expectations Assemblies were held early this week to inform students on policies and practices Lakewood Creek has in place to maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment. Students were also given ideas on how to appropriately handle certain situations they may encounter throughout the year. In addition, Lakewood Creek will review our Crisis Plan and make any necessary additions or changes to ensure a safe and secure place for learning. Please be sure to follow the points below to assist in our efforts:
• Only enter in through the main entrance when visiting – Door 2
• Sign-in and wear a visitor pass (the staff has been instructed to send/report anyone to the office who is not compliant)
• Be very careful, courteous, and conscientious during before and after school drop-off and pick-up – closely and patiently following our staff’s directions. Please review and abide by the enclosed handout out to assist you with pick-up/drop off protocol.
Home and School will once again be very active in supporting the students, staff, and community alike this year through events and activities, volunteerism, and financial generosity. Our current executive board will be leading the charge this year:
Doug Marecek – President
Dawn Dalton - Vice President
Christine Chevron – Vice President (Committees)
Amy Leckinger – Treasurer
Patti McCumber – Recording Secretary
Dawn Relinger – Corresponding Secretary
Please note the following upcoming dates and events – additional information on each will follow as the dates approach:
• Curriculum Night: Thursday, September 17th from 6:30-8:00
• MAP Testing: September 14th thru October 2nd
• Home and School Family Night: Friday, September 11th 6:30-8:00
Please be sure to review the enclosed monthly calendar for additional dates.
We at Lakewood Creek truly look forward to the many opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to working closely with families and the community to make this upcoming school year a wonderful one!
