Message from the Principal
April 9, 2010
Dear Lakewood Creek Family Members,
I hope everyone had an opportunity to enjoy some quality time with your children over Spring Break! Lakewood Creek would like to welcome back a few teachers from their maternity leaves and congratulate them on their new family additions: Mrs. Martin / baby Logan, Mrs. Gleason / baby Logan, Mrs. Pavelka / baby Taylor, and Mrs. Maloney / baby Margaret! Everyone is doing well – congratulations moms!
The season of spring is upon us, which means organized sports, more sunlight after school allowing for more play with friends later in the evening, and the feeling of closing out yet another year at Lakewood Creek. Though these are all positives, please consider monitoring more than ever your child’s schedule so that they have the best opportunity to receive the most out of their 4th quarter. Setting aside scheduled time for homework each night, receiving a good night’s rest, and balancing after school activities with their school responsibilities will assist with the process.
Our students completed their ISAT testing right before break – the result will be shared next fall. Spring MAP testing began on Monday, March 29th and will be administered over the next 3 weeks to all 2nd – 5th grade students – the tests are in the area of math and reading. The results will be sent home in early May.
We have had a number of fun-filled opportunities presented to the students and families of Lakewood Creek over the past quarter: Numerous extra-curricular clubs and sports, the first annual HSO sponsored Daddy Daughter Dance, Math Night, Haiti Relief, Big Brother and Big Sister and St. Balrich’s Cancer fundraisers, the Willie Wonka 3rd Grade Musical, and the highly entertaining acappella group assembly, AcRock. Please be sure to review the enclosed upcoming 4th Quarter opportunities: Family Reading Night, Donuts with a Loved One, Teacher and Volunteer Appreciation Weeks, Fine Arts Night, Field Day, Aramark picnic lunch, and the HSO sponsored Fun Fair and much more!
As the weather becomes warmer, please be extra cautious during drop-off and pick-up as more and more students will be making their way home by walking. In addition, please do not bring dogs on school property before, during, or after school. Even the most well behaved pet can be spooked and act out aggressively. Thank you in advance for keeping our children safe!
In closing, I would like thank the staff, HSO, parent volunteers and community members for their continued support and dedication to the children of Lakewood Creek. Your efforts and passion truly makes our school a special place for learning.
Regards,
David R. Brusak
