Principal's End of the Year Message

May 31, 2012

Dear Lakewood Creek Family Members:

It has been an amazing year at LC this 2011-2012 school year! Due to the unmatched support of the staff, HSO, community partners, volunteers, and, of course, you the parent, our students have blossomed academically, socially, and emotionally. This year’s push to stress the “love to read” theme has been a true success. The following is a sample of what was created:

Every staff member displaying their “Hot Reads” monthly
Creation of our beautiful “Reading Lounge” – used daily by hundreds of students
Breakfast Book Club: entailing 6 mornings with over a dozen teachers promoting their favorite student books with over 200 (3-5) grade participants
Classroom Reading Logs
Opening-Year-Reading-Celebration Assembly and End-of-the-Year Culminating Reading Assembly with AC Rock

This 2012 Summer Reading Challenge takes on the Olympic Theme. The number of minutes needed to be read will be over 182,000 in order to meet the challenge.

A few staff members need to be appropriately acknowledged as they prepare to close their educational experience at Lakewood Creek. Lakewood Creek’s kindergarten teacher of over 10 years, Mrs. Blotter, will be joining the Wolf Crossing’s staff as a full-day kindergarten teacher. Mr. Coley will assume an art teacher position at Murphy Junior High. Mrs. Benavides, a long time Learning Disability Resource teacher, has accepted an administrative position with the Kendall County Cooperative. Lastly, a big thank you goes out to Jessica Christie for doing a great job during her maternity leave coverage and to Cassie Jackson for serving our students’ social work needs.

I would personally like to share my appreciation for respecting our traffic and parent pick-up/drop-off policies! Your continued support next year will certainly be greatly appreciated. Reminders of our current policy can be found at:

A great big thank you goes out to our HSO, parent volunteers, Oswego Cyclery (quarterly refurbished bike donation), Rosati’s Pizza, Montgomery Walmart, Bouno Beef, Subway (Montgomery Walmart), Jimmy John’s, McDonald’s and Target in Oswego for making a difference for the students at Lakewood Creek! Thank you for all you have done for us this year!

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the Lakewood Creek staff for their sincere dedication and commitment they demonstrate toward your children – they truly are a special group of educators!

Sincerely,
David R. Brusak
