Message from the Principal

November 12, 2009

Dear Grande Park Grizzly Parents,

November marks the beginning of the second quarter in District 308.  All students will be bringing home their report cards on Friday, November 6th.  Please set aside some time to review the report card with your child and set goals for the rest of the school year.  Help your child think of ways they can improve in certain areas and find time at home to help them practice those areas that need improvement.  Teachers are in the process of scheduling for the Parent Teacher Conferences that occur toward the end of the month.  Our goal is for 100% participation because it is important for your child to see that home and school are working closely together and are a team.

In September, at Curriculum Night, I shared the success our school had on meeting our 2008-2009 School Improvement Goals and last month I shared our wonderful 2009 ISAT results.  Recently our staff developed our new School Improvement Goals.  Goal #1: The percentage of our students who will meet or exceed the state standard in reading will increase from 90% in 2009 to 95% at the end of 2011 as assessed by the ISAT.  Goal #2: The percentage of our students who will meet or exceed the state standard in writing will increase from 85% in 2009 to 90% at the end of 2011 as assessed by the ISAT.  Goal #3: Grande Park Elementary School will continue to improve our school’s climate by creating activities that foster and promote positive interactions between classrooms, staff, and community.  This will be assessed by surveys and participation.  More information about these new goals will be shared at our next PTA meeting on Monday, November 16th at 7:00 PM in our Community Room.

November is such a busy and exciting month at Grande Park Elementary School.  Some highlights include American Education Week which is November 16th through the 20th.  Our 3rd and 5th graders will perform the musical “Destination: America!” on Thursday, November 19th at 6:30 and 7:30 PM.  The Book Fair begins November 20th and continues through the Parent Teacher Conferences on the 23rd and 24th.  This is open to our families and the community.  Please see more information in this newsletter and on the calendar for more specific information.

As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding anything that is happening at Grande Park Elementary School.  I believe it is important for you to get the most accurate information first hand.  I can be reached at (630) 551-9710 or bwulff@oswego308.org.  Don’t forget to sign up for all our electronic communications by going to the District Website and registering through Communicate 308.  Go Grizzlies!

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                    Beth Wulff, Principal
