April 29, 2010

A Note from the Principal

Greetings, Mustang Families!
Spring has sprung!! The sun is shining, the temperature is rising, and baseball season is here.  Our students and teachers continue to work hard as the end of the school year fast approaches.
Please join us on Monday, May 3rd for our Home and School meeting when we will elect new officers for the 2010-2011 school year. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to all of our Home and School board members for the extraordinary amount of energy and time they spend volunteering to make things better for our children and teachers. They make a difference in all of our lives.
Churchill's Cultural Arts Night will take place on Wednesday,  May 5th, featuring the third grade musical and student art show. Doors will open at 6:30, so family and friends can view the beautiful works of art that our students created under the direction of Ms. Mucklow. At 7 pm, the third grade students will “Shiver me timbers, and Yo Ho” through their exciting musical performance under the direction of Mrs. Van Camp. Please join us as we showcase our talented students.
Our Spring Fling, held on the evening of April 23rd, was a huge success. The kids had a great time playing in the gym, and parents and families enjoyed viewing and bidding on the entire selection of wonderful auction items. A huge Thank You goes out to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to create such a successful evening. A special thanks goes to Christine Pietrowiak for heading up and coordinating the committee for this event.
MAP testing is complete and overall our students have demonstrated learning growth! Our students consistently perform above the norms of this test. Great job students and teachers!!
Future first graders who have spent their year in the Full Day Kindergarten program at Southbury Elementary will be visiting our school on May 18th from 1:15 -2:15. We look forward to welcoming our Mustangs back to their home school.
Our staff would like to honor all those parents, family members and friends who dedicate their time and energy volunteering in our school. Their service and dedication to our students and staff will be recognized during a volunteer breakfast hosted by the Churchill staff. The appreciation breakfast will be held Monday, May 10th at 8:30 am.
During the month of May, we celebrate ALL of the pillars of character: Respect, Caring, Fairness, Trustworthiness, Citizenship, and Responsibility. Our students do a wonderful job at demonstrating these character traits and are recognized throughout the year. We appreciate your continued support at home as we all try to foster and develop these traits in our children.
IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER
It is against the law to talk on a cell phone in a school zone. Please refrain from using your cell phone when you are in the parent pick up line or driving anywhere near a school.

With warmest regards,
Christine Nelson
