Family and Community Programs
Bobcat Gym Nights
Bobcat Gym Nights are opportunities for
parents and students of each grade level to enjoy a fun activity
together. Each grade level, 1-5, has an opportunity for students
and their families to come to the school and participate
together in relays and Steal the Bobcat. Afterwards, parents and
students partake in cookies and juice. Only students of that
particular grade level are allowed to attend the Bobcat Gym
Night. This activity was created and is facilitated by the
Boulder Hill School Father’s Forum.
Cultural Arts Night
This program has traditionally been a
district wide art show at each building. At Boulder Hill, the
Music and Physical Education programs are also highlighted by
sharing with the community some of the “cultural” activities
that our students participate in as well as some of the
integrated activities that are shared among the three “specials”
classes. Students demonstrate different activities at different
grade levels.
Grandparents' Day
Each fall, we invite grandparents or other
significant adults to visit their grandchild's classroom. Grandparents or other significant adults
can choose to visit either in the morning or afternoon. More
details are available as we get closer to the event.
Halloween Picnic and Parade
Boulder Hill School opens its doors on Halloween to integrate
families within our school program. While the school does not
have room for grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, or other
relatives to participate in the room parties, families are
encouraged to join their child for lunch and the parade prior to
the room parties.
Family Reading Nights
Family reading nights are an opportunity
for parents and students to gather at the school and read
together at the school. Hosted on a quarterly basis, each
opportunity includes a variety of readings and dramatic
presentations of good books. Students also have the opportunity
to explore the library together and use the computer lab to
participate in the Accelerated Reader program or other lab based
computer programs. These family nights are a supplement to the
district reading curriculum. Some past family reading night
themes include: Read Across America, Star Light Story Time,
Scary Stories for Halloween, and Snow Stories.
School Safety Patrols
You have seen them in the street, walking the sidewalks, and
opening your car door to let your child out of the car or maybe
help them in. They are the Boulder Hill Patrols.
These children are a important part of the safety of Boulder
Hill School. These fifth graders volunteer to come in ten
minutes early in the morning wearing their yellow and orange
vests to show others who they can come to when they need help. The duties of these patrollers are as follows: working with the
supervisor in the street, watching children get off the bus and out
of cars, and helping aides with either inside or outside line up.
To be a patroller anyone can apply if they are in the fifth grade.
They must get parents' and teacher's permission. A patroller must
be responsible and able to keep a "C" average to stay on the
patrol. In April of each year fourth graders are
asked whether they have an interest in becoming a patroller for
the coming year. They are given a packet which they and parents
need to read and sign that they would like to become a
patroller. In May the new patrollers will practice with
the fifth graders to learn what each position is and
how it is properly done. When school starts in September again
they will then be put on a team and start their duties for that
year. |
