Busing Update: information for Bednarcik & Wolf's Crossing students
August 24, 2012
Bednarcik/Wolf's Crossing Parents:
The district would like to thank its parents for bringing possible hazards to student walking routes to the attention of administration. Student safety is one of the district’s main priorities and we value parent input into ensuring our students are safe before, during and after the school day.
As part of the district’s recent transportation review process, Board of Education members, administration, a third party traffic engineer and representatives from the city of Aurora and county were on site at the Bednarcik Junior High School/Wolf’s Crossing Elementary School campus to investigate traffic volume concerns in the area. It was necessary for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to evaluate to what extent the decrease in bus service to the campus would translate into an increase in vehicle traffic. Due to a number of factors including the increased traffic volume, the District 308 Board of Education will submit documentation to IDOT indicating that the area now meets the criteria to allow the re-implementation of bus service to students.
Students affected by this change will be notified by their school principal through a voice message to their primary residence. Further details will be included in the message. If parents have questions regarding route changes after receiving the voice message, they should call the district’s Transportation Department at 630-636-2999. General school questions can be addressed by the building administration (Bednarcik: 630-636-2500; Wolf’s Crossing: 630-636-3700).
Board of Education President Bill Walsh has been directly involved throughout the process and has been in constant communication with Board members and the superintendent. “The Board is closely monitoring our district transportation services and working with parents and administration to make adjustments where necessary,” said Superintendent Dr. Matthew Wendt. “I believe we have the ability to become more efficient and effective in the area of transportation and we will continue to work through the review process to ensure student safety remains a priority throughout the district.”
We thank all our parents for their patience and cooperation.
