Residency
Buying or Building a Home?
Parents/guardians may enroll their child(ren) in school
during open registration in June, prior to closing on an
existing home or while building a new home, as long as the
following required documents are provided:
- A legal contract for the purchase of an existing
home, or for the building of a new home within the
Oswego Community Unit School District 308 boundaries
- A scheduled closing date for the purchase of the
home
The above information will be required at the time of
enrollment. Students will be required to attend school on a
tuition basis if the closing date falls after the start of
the school year.
Tuition Fees and Transportation Prior to Closing on a
New Home
Parents/guardians will be required to pay monthly
tuition* for all students enrolled in the school district
prior to closing on a new home. If the home closing is in
the middle of the month, a full month’s tuition will still
need to be paid. However, the attendance days between the
closing date and the end of the month will be refunded.
After closing on a home, a copy of the closing papers
must be brought to the District Administration Office for
the district’s records, and to verify any refunds. The
school(s) will also need to be supplied with a copy of the
closing papers. Proof of residency is also required. This
can be done by supplying the school with two (2) of the
following items within thirty (30) days of the closing**:
- Current phone, electric, gas, water or cable
television bill
- Current real estate tax bill
Prior to closing on a new home, transportation to and
from school is the parents’/guardians’ responsibility. The
school district is not responsible for providing
transportation while students live outside the district’s
boundaries.
Renting Within the District
Renting or leasing an apartment is similar to purchasing
a new home. A legal lease (1 year minimum)—instead of a
sales agreement–-and the contact information of the leasing
agent must be provided to the district. Proof of residency
(above) must also be provided to the school(s) within thirty
(30) days of occupying the residence.
Moving to the District with Special Circumstances
If there is a special circumstance, please schedule an
appointment to talk to someone at the Central Registration
Office by calling 630-636-2404. All enrollment requirements
must be handled IN PERSON at the District Administration
Center, 4175 Route 71 in Oswego.
*Please note that District 308 does not accept tuition
students. Students must be moving to the Oswego Community
Unit School District 308 to attend District 308 schools.
**If proof of residency is not supplied to the
school(s) within thirty (30) days, an investigation will be
conducted in cooperation with the Oswego Police Department.
Criminal and tuition charges may be enforced.
